Luke “Woody” Woodhouse is known as a player with an exceptionally calm and controlled throwing style. His game may look simple at first glance, but behind that simplicity lies a well thought out development. In a popular video on the Dartshopper YouTube channel, Woodhouse explains how his technique has evolved and which adjustments helped him become more consistent at PDC level.
In the video, Luke Woodhouse shares several insights that together form the foundation of his throwing style. When he explains his technique, it becomes clear that his main focus is on calmness, repeatability and control. He points out that he used to throw too much from his shoulder, which caused extra movement and less consistency. By adjusting this and working more from the arm, he gained far better control over his throw.
Another key element is his aiming line. Woodhouse brings the dart back in front of his chin and does not look over the dart, but alongside it, while keeping his full focus on the treble 20. This fixed setup helps him avoid making corrections during the throw and allows him to release every dart with confidence.
His elbow also plays an important role. According to Woodhouse, there is no perfect elbow position. Your elbow can be placed wherever feels comfortable, as long as it does not move during the throw. Consistency is far more important than copying an exact stance.
At the moment of release, he gives the dart a small, controlled push forward. This follow through creates a clean release and improves accuracy. His rhythm generally stays the same, although he sometimes adjusts it slightly depending on how he feels on the day. The foundation always remains the same, small nuances make the difference.
